Northsound 1

Northsound 1 is a local radio station based in Aberdeen, Scotland. It broadcasts across Aberdeenshire on 96.9, 97.6, and 103.0 FM. The target group spans ages 15 to 44.

Why listen? Northsound 1 provides structured hourly news updates and a reliable music flow for daily commutes. RAJAR figures for Q2 2026 record 82,000 weekly listeners and a 9.1% share.

The morning show features Boogie and Arlene. Grant Thomson hosts the late-morning slot with The Throwback, while Garry Spence takes the afternoon drive shift. Most broadcasting comes from centralized network hubs across Scotland now rather than local studios.

The playlist focuses on mainstream pop and commercial tracks. Recent rotation features artists like Taylor Swift and Lewis Capaldi.

Compared to BBC Radio Scotland, Northsound 1 offers a heavier focus on commercial pop hits. The downside is a drop in distinct local community flavor.
